The one thing that I don't like about the miniseries is the portrayal of John Dickinson. It's improper to assume that he was a loyalist up to this point. He was against the Declaration of Independence without the ratification of the Articles of Confederation because the Continental Congress hadn't been recognized as the National government, so they technically couldn't unilaterally declare independence. However, the war situation forced Congress' hand and he couldn't support it and joined the Revolutionary Army.

The olive branch petition of July 5, 1775 was a last ditch effort, by colonists, to try to reason with King George III. His response on October 26, 1775, set the stage for the Declaration of Independence and everything else that followed in the coming years! We didn't want war with King George III and Great Brittain. America tried unsuccessfully, to resolve the issue peaceably! In the end, we had no choice in the matter! God bless America, long live the republic!

It must have been tough for so many british actors to play the part of the original revolutionaries. I cannot help but see the extreme similarities to what the king did, and what the biden administration is doing. Quashing our rights, and going after all who disagree. Lets hope history is again as judicial when it comes to our rights.

I love when Hancock reads "For those who persist in their treason..." twice as if to clear his throat after his eyes see the words that followed. Like "Oh sheeeeeeeeit I don't even want to say this next part out loud." Phenomenal casting, acting directing, etc. Minus some historical inaccuracies (very few), the whole damn series is perfect. I watch it once a year.

George III did not have the political imagination to view the colonists as Englishmen, with all the rights thereof, which would have been sufficient to have satisfied the colonists. He instead chose to view the colonies as a means of enriching the mother country and expanding her power. Europe's hubris... the same hubris that eventually led to two world wars.

Well all I can say is King George III certainly knew how to drive a VERY hard bargain!!!

I finally got around to watching the whole John Adams show this past summer over the course of a few days. Absolutely one of the most powerful shows I have ever watched. I appreciate shows that try hard to bring the moment to moment of life into history. All to often it is easy to read a few paragraphs from a book in school and walk away with knowledge of events but with no understanding of their impact. Stuff like this helps to show you those events, and bring humanity to the black and white text from the pages.

As a student of American History I never realized the momentous nature of King George’s letter. This may be the moment that these colonials-who believed they were Englishmen-realized that they were english no longer.
